It is common knowledge nowadays that asbestos is associated with diseases, however, many people remain unaware of the regulatory requirements for asbestos control.
The Manitoba Safety and Health Regulation 217/2006 sets detailed requirements regarding asbestos. This is enforced for day-to-day asbestos management and on construction projects. The consequences of non-compliance can include work stoppage and fines.
This course provides an in-depth review of everything related to asbestos, including its uses, health effects, relevant regulatory requirements, work classifications, and much more. It is relevant to a wide range of audiences – building owners, property managers, health & safety personnel, contractors, and many others.

In this course you will learn about:
- Uses of asbestos in buildings
- Health effects of asbestos exposure – occupational and non-occupational
- Building survey methods and hazard assessments
- Interpretation of bulk & air sample analysis results
- Asbestos regulation overview
- Asbestos waste transportation and disposal regulations overview
- Asbestos Control Programs and their implementation
- Asbestos abatement projects – considerations for planning and site preparation
- Types 1, 2 & 3 asbestos work operations – work area setup requirements, measures & procedures, personal protective equipment, and worker decontamination procedures

- Demonstrations of various equipment and asbestos material samples
- Class input and discussions are strongly encouraged throughout the course
- We conclude with an exam (optional to all participants) as an effective review of what you have learned
- Respirator fit testing will be performed for attendees who meet the following requirements:
- In order to be provided with and fit tested for a respirator, the attendee must be clean-shaven where the respirator seals to the face (this includes no beard, goatee, or significant stubble).

Edwin Wooster
Technical Manager/Regional Practice Leader, Hazardous
Materials
Edwin Wooster is a Technical Manager in the Hazardous Materials group at Pinchin Ltd. Edwin holds an Engineering Design and Drafting Technology diploma from Red River College.
Edwin has over 30 years of experience, with more than 20 years in project management of environmental audits and hazardous materials management. Edwin is Pinchin’s Regional Practice Leader for Hazardous Materials for Saskatchewan, Manitoba and North Western Ontario. As a Technical Manager and a Training Specialist out of Pinchin’s Winnipeg Office, he has a wide range of experience providing consulting services throughout Manitoba, as well as Saskatchewan, North Western Ontario, and Nunavut. He provides a variety of training sessions on various subjects including Asbestos, Lead, PCB’s, Confined Space, Working at Heights, Spills Response, and WHMIS 2015. Project management experience includes a comprehensive asbestos reassessment project for a national financial institution consisting of over 700 branches across Canada. He has conducted in excess of 500 asbestos survey and inspection projects and is extremely proficient at the collection of field data for the purpose of hazardous building materials surveys.
