Asbestos Bulk Material Analysis

Rush and Regular Turnaround

Preliminary results for Regular Turnaround samples are issued in five business days. The results for Rush Turnaround samples are provided within one business day. For samples received after 1 pm, results will be provided the next business day in the morning. Written reports follow by email. The written report consists of a covering letter and a table of results.

Asbestos Lab Accreditation

Pinchin is one of the few Canadian laboratories accredited by the US National Institute of Standards and Technology, National Voluntary Laboratory Accreditation Program (NVLAP Lab code 101270-0) and the relevant requirements of ISO 17025) for the identification of asbestos in bulk samples.

Accreditation to ISO standards provides an assurance of accurate and legally defensible analysis for our own clients, and for other consultants, building owners, engineers and laboratories on a confidential fee-for-service basis.

Code for the Determination of Asbestos from Bulk Insulation Samples

Bulk sample preparation and analytical procedures are in compliance with the Code for the Determination of Asbestos from Bulk Insulation Samples, dated the 23rd of August, 1985 and issued by the Occupational Health and Safety Division of the Ontario Ministry of Labour, and U.S. EPA Method 600/R-93/116 dated July, 1993.

Asbestos Air Analysis

Phase Contrast Microscope (PCM) NIOSH 7400 analysis of airborne fibres by trained analysts is available at all Pinchin offices. On large projects, immediate on-site analysis may be available when rapid turnaround is required

Methods and Quality Control

All Pinchin PCM analysts participate in the IRSST round robin program for air sample analysis.

Quality control measures taken by this laboratory for sample preparation and fibre counting follow the protocol described in the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) 7400 Method. For this laboratory, intra and inter-counter variations as well as intra-sample variations have been consistently below the control limits specified by NIOSH.
